Task 6b

Task 6B
My Role-Director
When it came to roles, as an individual i was an executive producer which as a role made me responsible for the process of forming ideas and making them into a product further more as the executive producer i would spend a lot of my time working along side the director of photography and the director while working on the shoot. Also i was responsible for sourcing all permissions and all props needed for the shoot, As i worked in this role i found that you have to be very organised and you would have to collects ways of improving the shoot for example when it came to an issue we had regarding lighting as the executive producer i would have to be a step ahead and i would have to source a lighting kit.

During the shoots, i spent a lot of my time working with the DOP and the director, so when it came to trying to put our ideas to life i made sure that we spent a week getting familiar with stop motion due to it being very time consuming and very easy to bump into errors so during this week we experimented and we created mock ups, which really helped us gather the stop motion technique.

Consultation
In terms of my role, we were firstly given a brief to review and look at and then we arranged our initial first meeting with the client who had set a live brief. when meeting the client we recorded a brainstorm with the client negotiating or settling any conditions within the brief that may be variable. while we was still with the client we decided to share our ideas that we have come up with just by viewing the brief , the client gave us feedback based upon his own desires and preferences. as the executive producer i had to consult the director and we discussed and studied the client and his specifications and we wanted to build a concept that would give us the opportunity to add more flair creatively.

Pitching
when it came to pitching the final idea to the client, one idea was finalized being the " Things come to Life" and as the executive producer i worked with my team and we pitched to the client as to how we was to put together these idents with the time and budget we had.

  • Production Plan

  • Potential Problems with Health and Safety, Budget, Practical skills and Resources
  • Possible Solutions

Production
when it came to production we arranged everything correctly because we gave ourselves a week to work with stop motion and get the jist of it so we created 2 mock up idents as the executive producer i watched over my team and worked very closely with the DOP and the director and then the next week we managed to film all 4 idents however we ran into some issues that were fixable in post production.

Evaluate the success of the process or responding to the brief and the effectiveness of your group organisation - informed by the feedback of others

when it comes to the success of the process, i would say we have completed these idents to a high standard with the use of creativity and flair, with a consistent theme. so if we look through the processes as a team of 5, when it came to pre-production the team worked very well however we wanted to make sure that our work was to a high standard so in every production meeting with sir we always wanted feedback so we could always improve our work. we spent one week getting familiar with stop motion and Plasticine, during this week we created to mock ups in two of our desired locations further more i would say we were successful because we managed to near enough master stop motion in a week. Then a week later we began to film the actual final idents, as a team i would say we all came together for example for every single shoot all 5 members of our team was there and if we had a situation where a member of the team was unable to come to college, they will be very quick to communicate via whats app asking what they can do to help the team move forward. when we began shooting we were unable to gain access to one of the rooms so we had set up a contingency plan so we could not let this set back effect or jeopardize us from hitting our deadline. so as a team i would say we were successful within the process and we managed to hit our final deadline.

Production Diary

Group Diary Entry:25th April 2017 2:45pm

Wednesday 19th April 2017 9:30am

At this time we was reviewing initial ideas so when it came to our first ideas, would have four Idents , one would show a talent show, another would be students drawing in an art room, another one being students participating in various sports and then final one being students studying.

Meeting Deadlines
when it came to meeting our deadlines I would say we had completed the work but unfortunately we ran into a lot of issues, because when it came to coming up with a concept for the 4 promotional idents we struggled.

Quality Management
when it came to sharing our ideas with Sir, he liked the approach we were having but he found that they weren't creative enough and were quite boring. The main problem we faced was trying to find to find a theme to suite our 4 Ideas so sent us away to work on our ideas leading up to the next meeting.

Team-working
When it came to working as i team i would say we worked well but we faced issues such as communication, for example due members of our that work communication would be quite delayed. However we worked collaubaretly in order to submit the work in time.

Monday 24th April 2017 9:30am

At this time we had developed our ideas and came up with the theme of "Things come to life"we came up with four ideas for our promotional idents. The first ident was planned out so it would be set in the studio and the faders will come to life and then the logo would appear on a monitor in the studio, the second was to be set in a lab and there would be a chemical reaction that would spell CTK , then the third ident would set in the art room and a students drawing would come to life in the form of play doh and finally our last ident would be located in the sports hall and students will be playing football then they would take a break and the logo CTK would be formed out of footballs.

Meeting Deadlines
When it came to developing our ideas, we had completed and finalised the ideas of "Things coming to life" so we had our idea finalized ready to complete our designs.

Quality Management
when it came to sharing our finalised idea with sir, he liked the idea and i found it gave us alot of leverage when designing our storyboards and designs.

Team-working
when it came to working as a team, i would say it worked really well because we all contributed to our ideas and we all adapted them to each others preferences.

Tuesday 25th April 2017 2:30pm

As a group, we met the client again to pitch our finalized ideas. we had 5 minutes to pitch all for ideas and talk the client through the production plan document.

Meeting Deadlines
when it came to meeting deadlines, we had successfully pieced all our work for the production plan together and we managed to pitch within the 5 minutes given.

Quality Management
Ugo spoke about All 4 designs, I spoke about the skills and the stages of pre-production and the theme and tone. Ese spoke about the problem with production and Kenny spoke about the solutions. our pitch finished with Eunice breaking down the budget.

Team-Working
When it came to working as a team, i would say we worked successfully because we all contributed to the pitch and we delivered in within the time scale of 6 minutes.

Wednesday 26th April 2017 9:30am

At this time we had to hold an emergency meeting due to having issues with the production plan, sir went through our work and told us we had done a few of the task incorrectly so we were given feedback and asked to complete the tasks to a Merit standard, if we didn't want to jeopardise our grade.

Meeting Deadlines
As a team we successfully met the deadline, however we completed the work to a poor standard which was very disappointing.

Quality Control
When we had a meeting with sir, he was very disappointed with the production plan, he mentioned that the treatment was an NYA because throughout i was very vague and barely mentioned the theme and tone of the idents. Sir also mentioned that the Gant Chart was very vague and it required detailed and to what roles everyone was doing. Sir also mentioned that the designs were NYA because we had no use of the storyboard format.

Team-Working
when it came to working as a team, i would say it was a very poor effort by myself and my team. I contributed to the treatment and Gant chart so i let my team down. when it came to these aspects.

Treatment

(i) What is the Theme
When it comes to our 4 Promotional idents the theme we have chosen is the idea of “Things come to life” this is going to be shown through all 4 promotional idents.
The first ident will be located in the studio and a student will be using the mixing desk and then the student will walk out of the shot and the mixer will come to life and the faders will be moving up and down rapidly and then the computer screen will display with the CTK TV logo.

The second Ident will be located in the art room, a student will draw a cartoon man and then the teacher will walk out of the room and the drawing will come to life in the form of a playdoh and then the student will sqaush the playdoh figure and then it will reveal the CTK TV log in playdoh.

The third ident will be located in a lab and there will be a students creating a chemical reaction, which will form the CTK TV logo, this logo will be created using playdoh. In the colours purple and white.

The fourth Ident will be located in the sports hall, there will be a group of students playing football and then they will walk away to have a break and the ctk logo will appear made out of footballs.

(ii)What colours are going to be used
For all of our idents the main colour scheme is going to purple and white, which are the college’s colours so we are linking the colour to college so its recognizable that the ident is for CTK TV.

(iii) What is the visual style
The visual style that is going to be consistent through all the idents is that all the idents with have a visual style with the use of stop motion in order to add to the creativity.
(iv) where it will be filmed
The suite of promotional idents will be filmed on college grounds but we will need access to certain rooms such as the studio, sports hall, art room and the studio.

(v) What is the Tone
The tone of our promotional idents would be lively and abstract because our idents will be coming to life and i would say our concept to promote a college is quite abstract has quite unique approach.

Designs

UNIT 5 TASK 3D- DESIGN

For the suite of idents that need to created for Christ the King St Marys sixth form college we have decided to go with the theme of the four seasons. During the idents we have decided as a group to include the college logo, as well as the college colours.

To keep up with the theme of the seasons , we have decided to dedicate one ident for each season.

Summer

For this ident the setting would take place out side in the outdoors, preferably students practicing for support. However i would like some summer colour to be present in the ident such as , powder pinkpink icelight grey marl, silver,  soft greypebble grey, mint ice, iced aquamistice blue, light aquapastel jade, light teal marl, light blue greycobalt blue marl, cornflower, summer blue marl, oxford bluewisteriaice lavendericed hyacinthprimrose.

Autumn

For this ident i was thinking of using

Image result for autumn colours

Autumn leaf color is a phenomenon that affects the normally green leaves of many deciduous trees and shrubs by which they take on, during a few weeks in the autumn season, various shades of redyellow, purpleblackorange, pink, magenta, blue and brown.

Spring

For this ident i was thinking of using spring like colours such as  warm greens, yellows, orangey reds, very peachy pinks and every shade of light brown from tan to palest beige. In this ident i would like to showcase the students interacting with each other while having these colours on display.

Winter

For this ident i would really like to see the cold colours of winter to be present in one way or another. colour such as the following

to accomidate the winter theme i would want to have students wearing warm coats, gloves, scarfs. this will make it clear to the audience that it is winter.

constraints (legal, ethical, regulatory)

2B (constraints (legal, ethical, regulatory)

Constraints (legal, ethical, regulatory)*; (Copyright, use of under 18s in the video, discrimination of ethnicity, gender, religious belief)

Legal Constraints need to be taken into consideration when creating and distributing a media product. There are many laws and regulations set by regulators to ensure that media companies and organisations do not offend people. Regarding Ethical issues and constraints, we as a group made sure that our ideas and themes did not offend people's ethnic backgrounds, gender or religious beliefs. We also had to make sure that we did not discriminate against minority groups. For example, during the production of our music video, we made sure not to glamorise gang culture and crime. This was one of the potential issues we had to deal with because of the type of music video (hip hop) we were producing.

We also used actors who were of a suitable age. This meant that no underage teens were included in the production. It is our responsibility as a production team, to make sure our final product fits the terms and criteria  of the brief and does not violate any legal constraints. It is important that we understand the laws regarding ethical issues. Moral and ethical codes may not be the law, but the way in which ethical & moral issues are handled could potentially affect the outcome of the product and the reputation of the client. Moral and ethical issues relate to whether or not certain content is “morally right” or suitable to show to the public. Morals are the principles on which one's judgments of right and wrong are based on. One of the most important issues we as a production group need to consider is copyright. We have to make sure that our product does not include any copyright material. And if we use copyright material, we have to show proof of granted permission.

Potential Problems

 Potential problems:

In this section I will be expressing the potential problems that may occur during the production stages whilst also stating solutions that could help minimalize the amount of problems that could occur in the production stages. This will allow us to be organised and know what to beware of whilst we are shooting on set.

Potential problems
Solutions
1) The set budget might not be enough implying that it may surpass the set budget in which can cause problems in completing the brief.
Revising the brief it specifically states that the budget that will be announced to us is that of £50, solely because we are the ones amassing the money. The amount of money spent can be reduced by us maximising spending’s to only necessary materials needed also another way to not breach the set budget is planning beforehand what the budget will be spent on.

2) Health and safety issues; we have looked at our location: the health and safety of crossing to enter college and amount of people.

The solution to this is that we are going be filming on the location which is CTK as that is who we are producing this product for. There will be recce and risk assessments issued so we are able to know our surroundings.

3) The house design colour scheme

The solution to this is that we are going to stick with the original house colours associated with CTK which is white, purple, and black. The reason behind this is that audiences will already be familiar with the original house design so changing it will elapse confusion and also the decision will have to be made across the sites which is a long process. In conclusion the safe answer is to stick with what is known and simple.

4) equipment and props

Our solution to this is that we are going to book all our equipment’s that we need a week earlier and order what we need two weeks earlier to our production week or day

5) Practical skills and resources:

One important problem is making sure that the production team is skilled enough in their dedicated areas. We have to make sure that every member has the necessary skillset to successfully contribute towards their role within the production group/team.

6) The sixth will be securing our location in time.

Our solution to this is that we are going to book and secure our location a week to our production week or date and also we are going to have a backup location in case we need it if any problem arises with the first location.
7)Lack of Communication
The lack of communication could bring down the groups motivation in completing the task as it is a group task which requires team effort as roles have been split evenly. The solution to this is to make a WhatsApp group chat or rather note your team mates numbers or emails.

Easter Work 1: Task 2b Group Reflective Article - Individual Contribution

Easter Work1 Task 2b and 2C Group Reflective Article

The brief: CTK are planning to launch their own digital TV channel for promotional videos for prospective students. They approached you to research and produce a suite of Idents to brand their channel targeting 15-19 years students of both genders from SE London.  You will have to consider the requirements of your client and work closely with them to fulfil the promotional purpose of the productYou will need to negotiate and agree a theme and design for a suite of 4 seasonal Idents that establishes consistency in the brand identity of the channel and appeals to its target audience, encouraging them to consider CTK as a place to study.  You must plan and produce the suite of idents that use stop motion animation and/or live video, negotiating creative changes with the client deliver to the project to deadline that fulfill the brief. Each Ident should be approximately 30 seconds and you will initially have a budget of £50.

  • Pester power:  Aiming towards kids in order for them to pester their parents into getting that product in which this is a very swaying/persuasive way of advertising. This will be used because we are aiming mostly to capture the attention of the students whilst on the other hand we will still be appealing to parents, other partner colleges, catholic people

Consultation with the client:

This was more than one brief but i will say it was mainly a negotiating  brief as we were able to invite our client in to converse with him the brief he set for us for the launching of ct. own digital TV channel in which will show promotional aspects for students. During this first meeting with the client he issued us a 5 minute discussion time so that we were able to brush up on ideas and question and lastly negating with each other what is needed to make the brief easy, under stable for us to do.

One question that was offered was the type of way in which the ident for CTK digital tv channel will presented, "Do we have to do stop motion" however, we stated that stop motion we take up more time and that won't last long. The client stated that what is presented in the stop motion ident must cover everything and your point must be clear to get across to students.

Second question that was expressed was "what brand identity do you want us to convey in the idents" he stated that it's targeting students aged 15-19 that might want to join the college so that they are able to see an accurate reflection of what the college is and what it is about but on the other hand he stated that the we have to bare in mind the stakeholder, that are going to be involved that are targeting and wanting students to join. He also stressed that we must consider how parents, partner schools  might see it , catholic prodigious see it, and how the wider community might see it. so its got to be a fair reflection, that it can't just be targeted at the creative side (media) but that is you wanna see the college in the best light by showing a mixture of things that show the college.

Third question asked "if we can rebrand the product as we feel it's currently branded to the parent rather than the students" the client implied that rebranding is fine but take in to consideration the wider stakeholder and its got to fit in with the expectations  of the local partner school, wider catholic prodigious in which you can not be un recognisable to them.

Forth question was "have you got any boundaries when it comes to representation of students and teachers in the college" he portrayed that we must consider the mission statement at the college but that you must have something that strongly represents the college.

A fifth question was that "In the brief it states that is should be seasonal (4seasons) can we just do 4 different idents that links with the college instead of seasonal" he expressed that its okay that there is no reason why it can't be done differently but it must not alienate other subject and that it should strongly represent the school as a whole.

In conclusion the the negotiation process with the client resulted in being successful as we were able to change and re-damand what we want that will better the school digital TV channel meaning that we basically have the option to use creative description but that the house design which is usually white, purple and black should be kept the same as that is what is used across the sites as the main house design and that it's already branded in the mind of the students and parents so there would be no point in changing the colour scheme of the college. we also negated as a group if we could incorporate the idea of an completion brief that expressed what ever group that had the best idea in which the client then loved/chose will be offered a prize of some sort therefore, it resulted in us coming to an agreement that the groups idea that is chosen would be reimbursed for what was spent in the pre-production process (budgeting).  Lastly, we also talked on terms about the type of way in which we will deliver the idents via: stop motion or live. however, in the brief it was portrayed that it had to be 30 second  in order to succeed and to meet the brief specifications but we were able to water down why stop motion will be hard to deliver a 30 second stop motion ident each as it will take time and because of the audience we are dealing with we know that they have short attention spans meaning they will be looking for something that stands out, drawn them by making them want to engage with the product and lastly it must me memorable and clear for audiences to remember.

I am able to relate to this brief because I had been set a brief to produce a music video in the past in which had the same kind of terms and conditions in which I had to choose and negotiate with my client what will be suitable for him and for me and for the wider community.
